Corry Beavers JV Volleyball Coach

It was just another day at the office for the lady Beavers JV volleyball team as they traveled to Northwestern on Tuesday night. Corry would sweep un the Wildcats in two straight sets 25-12 & 25-19

The first set was defined by Corry's overwhelming serving, and Northwestern struggling to pass.  Middle Hitter Rylee Nickerson had an exceptional night at the service line, placing serves with precision both short and deep.  In total, Corry servers served 7 aces in the set, enabling them to build a large lead and hold it through the end of the set.  Corry hitters also killed the ball efficiently when they had the opportunity, enabling quick side-outs.

In set 2, Corry played a number of players in new or unfamiliar positions.  This created a little pressure and some struggle at times, especially when passing.  Corry players responded to the challenge and led the whole set.  Middle hitter Morgan VanderSchaaff had her best hitting game of the season scoring 5 kills on 8 attempts and defending the net.

Overall, I was pleased with our ability to focus and to execute the game plan.  There were a couple of times in the second set where our passing made it difficult to side-out.  Fortunately, we were helped with a Northwestern hitting error late in the set, that got us through a rough spot in our serve-receive.  Then we were able to put Northwestern under our serving pressure to finish out the set.

Notable Play and Statistical Leaders

The serving leaders were Shawntel Dyne (11 service points, 1 ace),  Nickerson (10 service points, 4 aces), and Ali Yetzer (7 service points, 3 aces).  The hitters were led by VanderSchaaff (5 kills), Lauren Brundage (5 kills), Regan Kemp (3 kills), and Nickerson (2 kills).  The team combined for 21 digs, led by Yetzer (8 digs), Nickerson (6 digs), and Ellie Carey (3 digs).  Naomi Brown had 13 assists, and Haley Mumau had 3 assists.

The Corry JV team moves to a 12-1 record on the year and with have their last match of the season at Saegertown on Thursday night. JV opening serve is scheduled for 6:00 PM with the Varsity action to follow. DeeJ Experience has the intention of broadcasting the match live but it will be dependant upon internet and cell services out that way. If we can't go live with the match it will be tape delayed and we will put it up immediately when we return to the studio. www.deejexperience.com/corry-beavers
