Beavers Sink Pirates On Friday Night 53-31

Cameron Ricketts puts up a layup during the boys basketball game at Clymer on Friday.

Blog Report By Tyler Bailey

Corry Boys Basketball Coach

The Corry Boys Basketball Team traveled across the border to New York State to face off against the Clymer Pirates. The Beavers started off very slow once again only outscoring the pirates 11-8 in the first quarter. Then got the wheels turning a little bit more in the second quarter outscoring Clymer 17-8 for a 12 point lead at halftime thanks to a heave from beyond half court by Karson Chamberlin to end the half. "That shot was unbelieveable, and really sunk Clymer's ship I thought going into the half," Bailey Stated. Corry played a much cleaner game the second half and came out on top 53-31.

At halftime, we went over our struggles and spoke about coming into games over confident. "We have gone into a couple games where the guys come in and take teams too lightly. I keep reiterating that we have a lot to work on, and we need to be playing much better than what we are right now in order for us to reach our end of year goals. This coming week is a big test for us against Northwestern, Conneaut, and Oil City. We have to be crisp, take care of the ball, play efficient, and play smart. These are all things we have struggled with in about every game at times," Bailey Stated. As a team the beavers shot 33%, and somehow came away with a win.

One of the focus points on Friday night was turnovers, in which we improved on last game with only 12 turnovers. Tonight the team definitely did not improve in that category, turning the ball over 15+ times. When we focus so much on pressure and make other teams turn the ball over, we have to make sure we aren't giving the ball right back to them. Doing that equals the turnover ratio back out.

Player of the game, Landon Atha came off the bench and gave the beavers a huge boost. Atha had 9 points, 7 rebounds on the night and played a lot of good minutes for us. Landon had such a good first half, that we started him in the second half to ride that hot hand. Ricketts had one of his strongest games thus far down low guarding the bigs tonight and getting some tough rebounds.

No one on the team scored in double digits tonight, but nine guys scored. Joining Atha, was Moon with nine points, Chamberlin eight points, Deane eight points, Chamberlin seven points, Trask six points, Ricketts five points, Turben five points, Frisina & Scouten with two points. A lot of guys played tonight and had good minutes. Leading the charge in other categories was Chamberlin with five assists, Ricketts with eight rebounds and Moon and Chamberlin both had three steals.

Corry improves to 4-0 on the year and will host the Northwestern Wildcats Monday night in the Beaver Dam. JV opening tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 PM with Varsity action to follow. The game will be streamed live at www.deejexperience.com
