The 8th grade traveled to FLB for an exciting game filled with runs from both teams. After the first quarter, Corry found themselves tied at 4 apiece. In the 2nd quarter, Corry was able to score 6 unanswered points to go up 10-4 but with a minute left in the half, FLB scored two buckets to head into halftime 10-8 Corry.
FLB continued their run in the 2nd half to go up as high as 8 at one point. With a little more than 2 minutes left, Corry went on a tear to get within 2 points. With 2.6 seconds left, Corry ran a sideline out-of-bounds play where Maci Kemp found Ava West streaking to the hoop. Ava was able to make the buzzer-beater to force overtime.
In OT, Corry battled hard but was unable to get the win with a final score of 25-22.
I appreciated their grit today. The girls didn't play their best ball and their shots weren't falling. They could have given up in the 4th quarter and lost by double digits, but they didn't. They dug deep and mounted a great comeback to force overtime. We are always looking to learn and this game was full of learning opportunities.
Ava led us with 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 steals. Maci followed with 6 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, and 5 steals. Baylee Northrop had 2 points and 3 steals. Liv Swan had 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and 3 steals. Jordyn Watrous had 4 rebounds while Hannah Daniels had 1 rebound. Emma Kight finished with 1 assist.
