On a special "Thursday Night Lights," the Corry Beaver Football team hosted the Warren Dragons in week two of the young 2024-25 football season on a humid 75-degree night. Corry was coming off a week one win over Titusville, and the Dragons were trying to get over a stinging loss against Conneaut. Corry would keep the momentum rolling, though, with lightning-quick offense and smothering defense as the Beavers would rout the Dragons 42-6, with the mercy rule going into effect at halftime.

After a tip drill interception, the Beavers' offense settled down and really got clicking, like red-hot friction clicking! It started with a 49-yard strike from Nolan Carey to freshman wide receiver Connor Sterling for Sterling’s first career varsity touchdown, one of hopefully many. Zach Turben kicked the PAT and Corry led 7-0, which was the lone score of the first quarter.

Corry's red-hot offense and smothering defense took charge in the second quarter. After quick-hitting pass plays and fast-moving drives, the Beavers punched in back-to-back one-yard touchdown runs on consecutive drives. The first one came from Nick Lesher and the second one came from Lamech Albers. Both PAT attempts from Turben were good, and just like that, the Beavers led 21-0.

After a sure touchdown pass was dropped, instant redemption happened for Blake Cook as Carey fired a bullet over the middle and Cook took it in perfect stride and scampered 48 yards for a touchdown. Turben would again tack on the PAT and the Beavers led 28-0.

After a pair of punts from each team, the Dragons tried to mount an attack with 3:42 left in the first half and one timeout in their pocket. The Beaver defense, however, had other plans. Brady Shene dropped back to pass for the Dragons and threw it deep downfield, but Jack VanChieri, playing center field, intercepted the pass and set up the Corry offense on the Warren 44-yard line with 2:14 to go in the second quarter. The Beavers needed mere seconds to get into the end zone, though, as Carey fired a dart to Will Allen on a slant route, and Allen took it to the house. Turben added the PAT, and just like that, the mercy rule was set to start coming out of the halftime break. Corry’s defense held Warren to 15 yards in the first half of play.

Carey went 11-17 with 231 yards passing and three touchdowns, with the one tip drill pick in the first half. When the Beavers came out of the locker room, Carey’s only duty was kickoffs as Lucas Baker took the helm. It was midway through the third quarter when Lesher found pay dirt for the second time from one yard out. Turben connected on his sixth PAT of the night as the Beavers rolled to a 42-0 lead.

Warren finally got on the scoreboard late in the fourth quarter with a 33-yard touchdown run by Tyler Anderson. A failed two-point play kept the score at 42-6, which ended up being the final score.

Carey led the Beavers in passing. Lesher carried the ball nine times for 53 yards and scored a pair of one-yard touchdown runs. Blake Cook led all receivers with 4 catches for 87 yards and a touchdown.

Five different Beavers scored for Corry as they improved to 2-0 on the year. Corry will have a much stiffer challenge on Friday, September 7th as they host their third straight home game, this one against the Fort LeBoeuf Bison.
