Corry Gives Up A Three Ball As Conneaut Hands Corry Their First Loss Of The Year

Kamdyn Moon connects on a three point shot during Wednesday's loss at Conneaut. Moon finished the game with 11 points on the night.

The Corry Boys Basketball Team traveled to CASH On Wednesday night and went home with a loss from a game winning three point shot. Conneaut came back and stole the game 56-55.

During the first half Corry came out and outscored the eagles by double digits going into halftime and had very little turnovers. Early into the second we had a 20 plus point lead. During the second half the beavers did the exact opposite. After a high scoring third quarter from both teams, Corry went ice cold and froze only scoring 5 points in the fourth quarter.

“When the team started to turn the ball over, I felt like no one wanted the ball anymore,” Bailey stated. It was very visible. The team stopped attacking the rim and we looked like a totally different basketball team.

Wednesday was the first night without starting point guard Karson Chamberlin. He is anticipated to miss several games do to breaking his left hand. I thought we did well in the press break the first half, and then we really struggled bringing the ball up in the second half. There is no way around it, we need our guys to step up and be confident with the ball. We saw what we could do in the first half.

After a comeback from the eagles, you look at a lot of things that beat us. The part of the game that killed us tonight was our free throw percentage. We went 11-19 from the free throw line, and this is an area we have struggled all season long. We can’t have guys missing free throws at the rate we are. Especially guys that are getting to the line six to eight times each game. As a team we didn’t shoot the ball well, shooting only 35 percent from the floor. We need our main guys to get the ball in the hoop specifically around the rim, and then we can gain some confidence from the outside which we really haven’t had in our first 6 games.

Frisina again played a great game for us and is doing everything I want him to do right now. Taking the ball to the hoop, shooting the three when he is open, and of course playing great defense. He led the team tonight with five steals, two blocks and had a varsity high 13 points.

Nick Scouten came off the bench and played well and was the most poised. He did have a couple turnovers, but I thought he came in and played pretty well while also hitting a couple 3 point field goals.

In the second half we also got beat on the boards pretty good, which led to easy points around the bucket. Overall our defense was ok, we just hit the breaks on the offensive side of the ball and were very timid. Similar to our second game of the year verses Cochranton. Unfortunately someone who we would prefer to shoot the last shot of the game drained a three from the corner.

"My hopes is that we can have guys step up and learn from this game, rather than let it drag out and continue making the same mistakes. We have a quick turnaround traveling to Oil City on Friday." Bailey Said.

Deane had 13 points, Moon with 11, Trask with six, Atha with three, and Ricketts with two points on the night.

Corry falls to 5-1 and 0-1 in region play. They will travel to Oil City for another region matchup Friday in Oil City. JV will tip off at 6:00 PM with Varsity to follow. The Game will be streamed live on the DeeJ Experience Sports Stream. www.deejexperience.com
