Corry JV crushed their Mercyhurst Prep opponent in a quick two set victory on Thursday night 25-7, and 25-19.  The Lakers were an athletic team, but lacked the experience and confidence to go toe to toe with Corry.  In these types of games where the opponent is not generating much in the way of offense, it is hard to keep focused and to play sharply.  Corry managed to play fairly sharply anyway for the win.

Set 1 began with Corry setter Haley Mumau, going on a 10 point serving run including 3 aces.  That was followed a couple servers later by RH/S Naomi Brown with an 8 point service run including 5 aces. Except for 5 unforced Corry errors, Prep only scored 2 points.  They did not pass the ball well, and Corry did.  The highlight play of the set was when MH Rylee Nickerson connected on a 1 ball and lasered it onto the forehead of Prep's left back defender.

In the second set, Corry struggled with hitting errors, keeping the score a little closer than in the first set. The final result was the same though, with Corry easily winning the set.

Throughout the match Corry servers dominated.   The serving leaders were Mumau (10 service points, 3 aces), and Brown (11 service points, 6 aces).  The hitters were led by Nickerson (5 kills), MH Kendall Donoghue (3 kills), and RH Katie Downey (3 kills).  The team combined for 22 digs led by DS/Liberos Ali Yetzer and Ellie Carey with 4 apiece.  Brown had 13 assists, and Mumau had 4.

Corry improves to 9-1 on the year and they will be in action on Saturday at the Lakeview JV Tournament.
