Blog report by Mark Brenner

Corry Volleyball JV Coach

The Corry Beavers JV Volleyball team won their 11th match in a row an last home game of the season, beating the North East Grape Pickers at home in two sets 25-12 and 25-22.

The first set ended up a lopsided score with Corry coming out on top.  The score only tells part of the story.  Corry excelled in hitting, getting 14 kills on 28 attempts with only one hitting error.  Corry also served very well.  Meanwhile, North East had 11 unforced errors in the set including 7 hitting errors and 2 serving errors.  In the second set, it was more of the same, lots of unforced hitting and serving errors by North East, but this time the score was much closer because Corry had a few hitting errors of their own.

I did not think we were able to focus well while we were in serve receive, and on defense. That made it harder on our setters and hitters, keeping the scores closer, especially in the 2nd set.

The serving leaders were Haley Mumau (eight service points, one ace), Rylee Nickerson (seven service points, three aces), and Ellie Carey(five service points).  The hitters were led by Lauren Brundage, who had her single best game all season, (10 kills on 15 attempts, and only one error), Regan Kemp had seven kills, Shawntel Dyne (two kills), and Nickerson (two kills).  The team combined for 22 digs, led by Carey (five digs), Kemp (four digs), and Ali Yetzer (three digs).  Mumau had 17 assists, and Naomi Brown had seven assists.

Corry JV improves to 11-1 on the year and will head to Northwestern on Tuesday to play the Wildcats. JV opening serve is scheduled for 6:00 PM with Varsity action to follow.
