Corry Volleyball JV Coach
Corry JV won their sixth straight match at home against a competitive Clarion team. The last time Corry played Clarion it was early in the 2023 season and Clarion outplayed Corry in all phases of the game. This time it was Corry that played with focus and relatively few errors, outperforming Clarion in serving, hitting, passing, and defense. The Beavers Swept the Bobcats 25-11 and 25-20
In the first set Corry got off to a good start with tough serving and hitting. There was good back and forth play, but Clarion had 5 serving errors in the set and those proved too much to overcome.
In the second set, Clarion did not score any points when they were serving. Corry passed very well, setting up an efficient offense. OH Lauren Brundage had 4 kills on 10 attempts in the set, but five different Corry players notched kills. Near the close of the set, setter Naomi Brown served 3 aces in a row to lock in the win.
As a team Corry servers had a 92% serving percentage and served 9 aces compared to 2 aces by Clarion. Serving leaders were OH Regan Kemp (9 service points, 2aces), Libero Ali Yetzer (7 service points, 1 ace), and Brown (5 service points, 5 aces). Yetzer and Libero / DS Ellie Carey led the team in serve receive passer ratings. OH Brundage had 7 kills, Kemp 4 kills, RH Katie Downey 2 kills, and MH Rylee Nickerson 2 kills. Yetzer and Kemp had 10 and 6 digs respectively. Brown, Nickerson, and MH Kendall Donoghue each had a block while defending the net. Setter Haley Mumau had 13 assists and Brown had 4 assists.
Corry JV moves to 6-1 and will host the Seneca Bobcats on Thursday night where the Beavers will celebrate senior night. JV opening serve is at 6:00 PM with senior night festivities to follow. Varsity match will put a cap on the night. Make sure to get to the Beaver Dam early to celebrate these nine wonderful young ladies!
