Corry JV Volleyball Coach

The Corry JV Volleyball team travelled to Lakeview High School for their last tournament of the season on Saturday.  Although there were things for Corry to work on, and there will always be things we are working on to get better, Corry dominated the competition throughout the tournament.  From pool play to the championship round of the playoff bracket, Corry never came close to losing a set. Of all the facets of the game that stood out during this tournament, the one that set Corry clearly apart was their hitting.  9 different Corry players scored 59 kills on 123 attempts with only 11 errors, for a collective team hitting efficiency of .390.  That number would be a great number for the best hitter on the team, but when that was the average of all 9 hitters, it shows Corry is an offensive team to be reckoned with.

The Quarterfinal of the Gold Bracket had Corry playing Grove City.   Grove City served tough and put pressure on Corry passers, acing them 6 times in the set.  This turned out to be the team that scored the most points against Corry all day at 17. But when Corry did pass a settable ball, our hitters scored a kill and were able to side-out nearly every time. Ultimately, even though Corry struggled in serve-receive, Corry servers and hitters more than made up the difference allowing Corry to cruise to victory in the set.

The Semifinal against Lakeview, and the Final against GM both played out similarly with Corry doing an adequate job in serve-receive and dominating in serving, hitting, and defense.  In both matches, Corry secured an early lead and then built on the lead while eventually winning the match ups.

This tournament was another case of everyone doing their jobs and winning as a team.  There were a lot of opportunities for coaching input as individual players were challenged to get better at their positions. I am proud of the accomplishments that the team has achieved this year, but even more excited when I see the team and individuals achieve the next level of play by making adjustments and becoming better volleyball players and people. It was a good day to learn, get better, and have fun.  And I guess we won a few matches too!

Corry returns to season action on Tuesday night on the road at Girard before their last home game of the year on Thursday against the North East Grape Pickers. JV opening serve is scheduled for 6:00 PM with varsity action to follow.
