Corry Volleyball Head Coach
Corry volleyball swept the Neshannock lancers in front of the largest crowd of the season and the Corry fans went home happy. In each set, Neshannock would play very competitively and typically have a lead through the first 20 or 25 points, and then the second time through the rotation, Corry would take the lead and close out each of the three sets 25-14, 25-21, 25-18.
Neshannock scored the first three points of set one and led 11-10 when senior Halle Albers went back to the service line for the second time. She helped Corry score 8 points in a row with sophomore Grace Allen getting three kills, Payton McCray a setter dump, and Aubrey Chase a kill. Corry finished on a 6-4 run to close out the first set 25-14.
The second set, Neshannock also led 11-10 and extended the lead to 15-11 when Corry took the first time out. The lady beavers responded with a 14-6 run to win the set 25-21. Seniors Allison Sawyer and Sadye Dyne had multiple kills during the run and Halle Albers had the last kill of the set.
The third set was tied at 11-11 and was point for point to 15-15 when Aubrey Chase had another big kill to give Corry the lead for the last time. Grace Allen and Emmalee Carr had back-to-back kills and stretched the lead to 22-18. Makenna Moore served an ace followed by another Aubrey Chase kill. With the score 24-18, sophomore setter Haley Mumau finished the match off with a setter dump right in the middle of the court.
“What a great night. All the kids played well, we got the win, and we had a terrific crowd – probably the biggest crowd of the season. Neshannock passed much better than we expected which kept them in the match all night. However, when we were in system, Neshannock really had no answer for Grace Allen, she pounded 15 kills and had 4 blocks. If Grace wasn’t hitting the ball to the floor, our middles (Aubrey and Sadye) were, with both getting 5 kills.” stated coach Goodsel. “For the second match in a row, junior Sydney Mineo had a key service run picking up three service aces and one really important dig that we converted into a point late in set two.”
“I’m really proud of how the team handled the pressure of a home playoff match and dealt with the pressure of being down in each of the three sets early, only to fight back and dominate the second half of each game.”
