Corry Volleyball Head Coach
Corry volleyball wrapped up a very busy homecoming week with a tournament on Saturday at Meadville. Corry finished second in pool play behind Meadville, and then in an abbreviated playoff format (one game to 25 points), Corry beat Merchyhurst Prep and Saegertown to advance to the finals where they fell to the host, Meadville Bulldogs.
In the second tournament in a row, Corry and Meadville met in the finals, with this time Meadville pulling out the victory (Corry won the Fort LeBoeuf tournament over Meadville).
Corry’s serve receive passing was led by senior Sydney Woods, and juniors Bailee McCray and Sydney Mineo. The balanced offense continued with kills by Grace Allen, Sadye Dyne, Allison Sawyer, Halle Albers, Aubrey Chase and Emmalee Carr. Defensively, Makenna Moore led the team in digs to the setters Payton McCray and Haley Mumau. Corry’s tough serving kept the opponents off balance most of the day, with aces by eight different players, including junior Brynley Watrous.
“Given the challenging week of a couple big matches, homecoming parade, three of our players being on the homecoming court and all that entails, the Friday night football game, and then an all day tournament before the homecoming dance on Saturday night… I was pretty pleased with how we carried ourselves throughout the day. We need to have a good practice on Monday and then perform well in the three big matches this week.” said coach Goodsel.
