Corry Volleyball JV Coach
Corry JV made short work of their opponents tonight in a match at Union City. Union City tipped a lot of short balls and that gave Corry a defensive challenge, but the Corry offense, serving, and passing game were too much for UC to handle. The Beavers Swept the Bears in two straight sets 25-11 and 25-17.
In the first set with the score tied 5-5 RH Shawntel Dyne stepped to the service line to serve 8 straight points to give Corry a healthy lead. Corry dominated offensively, scoring kills on 14 of 28 attempts compared to 4 kills for Union City.
In the second set, play got a little sloppy at times as Corry struggled to keep focused. There were missed serves and hitting errors, but the result was the same as the first set. Even with the errors, Corry was too much for UC to handle.
Notable Play and Statistical Leaders: Corry servers were led by Dyne (8 service points), L / DS Ali Yetzer (5 service points, 2 aces), and DS / L Ellie Carey (5 service points, 1 ace). OH Regan Kemp led the team passing in serve-receive followed by Yetzer. OH Lauren Brundage and Kemp had 8 kills and 6 kills respectively followed by MH Rylee Nickerson and MH Kendall Donoghue with 3 kills each. The team combined for 37 digs led by Carey (12 digs), Yetzer (7 digs), Dyne (6 digs) and S Haley Mumau (5 digs). Mumau had 17 assists and S Naomi Brown had 5 assists.
Beavers JV team moves to 5-1 on the year and will host Clarion Wednesday night in the Beavers Dam. Everyone is encouraged to bring a non perishable food item to get free entry to the game as Corry Volleyball will be teaming up with David Corry Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram to benefit the food pantry. Opening sever is scheduled for 6:00 PM with the battle of the number ones in the state take center court afterwords. Show up and bring the noise to the Beaver Dam!
