Corry Volleyball JV Coach
Corry JV took care of business at home, defeating Cathedral Prep JV in 2 sets 25-9 and 25-17 on Wednesday night in the Beaver Dam. There were many similarities between this match and the match against Iroquois on Tuesday night, even the scores were nearly identical. Corry dominated in every phase of the game, got out to early leads in both sets, and had lots of opportunities to run the offense. Corry was missing a couple of players due to sickness and injury, but those on the court stepped up and played very well.
Once again, everyone on the roster got significant playing time. Those that were on the court took advantage of that time to get better and to learn. Corry hitters got 27 kills compared to 4 for Prep. Similarly Corry dominated in the serving and passing game ,34 service points and 10 aces, while Prep had 10 service points and one ace. Sometimes when the score is a little lopsided, it is difficult to maintain mental focus and to execute with precision. For two nights in a row, Corry was able to excel, and to show the ability to play volleyball even when playing with a large lead.
Corry servers were led by MH Rylee Nickerson (11 service points) and S Haley Mumau (8 service points and 6 aces). Libero Ali Yetzer and OH Regan Kemp led the team in passing. Kemp led a balanced hitting attack with 9 kills, followed by OH Lauren Brundage 5 kills, RH Katie Downey 4 kills, MH Morgan Vanderschaaff 4 kills, MH Kendall Donoghue 3 kills, and RH Shawntel Dyne with 2 kills. Kemp, Mumau, and Nickerson had 11,9, and 8 digs to lead a total team 47 digs. Setters Naomi Brown and Mumau had a total of 25 assists, and kept our offense rolling.
Corry JV improves to 4-1 on the year and will head to Cambridge Springs for a JV tournament on Saturday before invading the Bears Den in Union City on Tuesday.
